Apple iPad2, model MC775LL Tablet

Even with the latest shifts in the economy, user spending on personal hand-held electronics is presently at an all time high. Part of the explanation for this is that small electric gadgets are becoming very easy to pay for. What was once thought of as flamboyant has now turned into the must-have product to own.

The Apple iPad2, model MC775LL Tablet is available in WiFi, WiFi + AT&T 3G and WiFi + Verizon 3G. This particular model is available in black, but you can also get it in white (MC984LL/A). For the technical information, you have:

• Apple’s iOS 4, 1GHz dual-core Apple A5 custom-designed processor
• 64GB integrated
• 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology
• WiFi 802.11n

The hardware platform run on these machines is Mac, and the hard drive is Solid State 64 GB. Solid State means that it’s not going to get heated up like many laptop hard drives tend to do.

The case itself is (in inches) 7.31L X 9.5W X 0.34H and weighs in at 2 pounds. This will make it easier to carry and take along with you no matter where you intend to use it.

You do need to “sync” your iPad 2 with a computer, whether it is a desktop or a laptop. Once it is “synced” you don’t have to do anything else with it. There have been a fair amount of reviews for this product, and as of the time of this writing, the majority of them have been rather positive. It should be noted that many of the negative comments have been that you cannot use the iPad 2 like you would a laptop. This is not a laptop, which could be why they felt that way.

What can you do with an iPad 2?

• Touch the screen to type words, move things around, expand and contract stuff
• Compose, send and receive Email
• Browse the internet which includes on-line banking, as well as internet shopping
• Listen to your favorite music, including the radio as long as you have either a WiFi or 3G connection
• Watch your favorite videos and movies
• Compose letters and print using a wireless printer setup
• Download and play games
• Compose and create a photo album
• Take pictures and movies – the iPad 2 comes with an onboard camera
• Video conferencing
• Download a HUGE number of books to read just like a physical book
• Video presentations
• Daily Planner
• …And a lot more

What you will not be able to do with the iPad 2 is:

• Watch anything that involves using ‘Flash’
• Do anything off of a CD as there is no CD or DVD drive

Wizard Technology
Any time you want to load something, a wizard will pop-up and guide you through installation. Once you have the iPad 2 “synced” with a computer, you can use iTunes to set up your music, movies, podcasts, etc. on your computer and then just download them onto the iPad 2 using the enclosed USB cable.

Applications

With thousands of available Applications, or Apps for the iPad 2, there’s bound to be something for everyone whether you are looking for entertainment or educational programs. Use the Web browser to search the App store for what you are looking for, select is and download it right into the iPad 2. Once you have your selection downloaded, all you have to do is tap on the icon to select it and enjoy.

Pictures
There are a number of ways to load pictures onto your iPad 2. You can load them into your iTunes and transfer them, Email them and open them up using the iPad 2, or you can purchase a camera connection kit. This is a separate adaptor that plugs into the bottom side of the iPad. Once connected you insert the memory card from your camera and it will automatically load your pictures for you. Once your pictures are loaded, you can turn your iPad 2 into a digital picture frame using the icon at the bottom of the screen. Your pictures will display full-screen.

Printing
You can print letters, Emails, etc. off of the iPad 2 as long as you have a wireless printer. The Apple website has a list of compatible printers, but you can also (for a cost) find a third party App for wireless printers not listed.

Accessories
There are quite a number of accessories available for the iPad 2. Many people advise getting a case for it to keep it protected. Another option is to have a screen protector for it. You can find these and other available accessories either through Apple or here, through our site.

Being a computer science instructor, I’ve seen many different types of systems. Having used the iPad 2, I find it suits all of my needs. I’m able to prepare my lectures for class and create video presentations for my students. This is a lot lighter and easier to carry than the textbooks. This system has never crashed on me, it’s a great platform to use.

There are so many Apps available for this product that you will actually find yourself becoming a smarter person just by using it.  The iPad itself is smart by using the wizards, discovering what you have new and walking you through the installation. Seamless, effortless, a great product to have.

I love not only the size of this, it’s so easy to take with me wherever I go. Comes in handy when traveling. I also really appreciate the fact that this cannot get a virus. That’s important to know when you have a lot of important information stored.
