Sony Bloggie Touch Camera

Even with the recent changes in the economy, consumer spending on personal hand-held electronics is presently at an all time high. Some of the answer for this is that small electric gadgets are becoming very easy to buy. What was once envisioned as exorbitant has now changed into the you-gotta-see-it item to posess.
The bloggie camcorder is a touch screen model capable of 360-degree still pictures as well as HD footage. I’ve it for weeks now and I love it to be honest.
I’ll start with some specs, which for a pocket camcorder, I find very impressive.
1920×1080 HD MP4 recording
1920×1080 high definition (MP 4)
12.8Mega pixel still photography
Touch screen
3.0″ LCD and a vertical/horizontal operation
8GB internal memory and 4 hours HD battery recording life.
HDMI Out capability
And it weighs 156 grams and is, at 15mm thick, super thin
Is it any good I hear you say? Well I’ll start by saying it looks great with a black, brushed steel look, and it’s a very compact design.

The bloggie starts very quickly, which is hugely important to me and I’m guessing most folk that buy a portable. At holiday time or special gatherings, you want to grab and shoot with no big lag time. The battery charge time is also quick, this is doubly important here as, and this is my only gripe, the battery is non removable so you’ll have to recharge when it goes down, but like I say, this is a quick process, and done through a USB port.
Using the interface for the first time (as I was) is a pleasant experience. It is intuitive, and flows easy between functions. The big screen and easily followed menus would make this an ideal gift for those who may be new to video shooting, or want a straightforward machine, and remember, it doubles as a pretty neat still camera too.
As for the footage, the play back on my PC is really, really good. Colours are crisp; there is never any jerking due to an image stabilisation function that is way better than any I’ve used in other pockets; and there is also the ability to take stills while shooting footage. The still pictures that that you get from shooting within video mode are excellent by the way. Outdoor is where it operates best in my opinion, with excellent results. Indoors is absolutely fine, but in very low light it will, as with all pockets, need to be used with care and minimum movement. For those using a Mac platform, you can now download software to playback on your MAC!
The zoom on the bloggie is digital, not optical, so you use it mainly by a sliding zoom control on the screen. Given the generous size of the screen I had no problems getting used to it, and anyone else with an iphone will know all about it.
Sharing and posting of your masterworks is very straightforward to all the main media sites, as well as a new, dedicated site that allows you to drag, drop and share photo’s with a pre-selected group of friends which is easier still. Transfer of files is via a nifty fold out USB slot.
I’ve had a number of pockets recorders, and the Sony Bloggie Touch Camera is easily the best of them. Its ease of use, share and touch screen make it a lot of fun to use, and at this price I really don’t think you will get better value for your money.
