When Sony say this is aimed at beginners, let me tell you that they have backed it up with features. First up is the in-camera guidance system
which I found very clear and easy to use. OK so I’m not a beginner, but I tried to think like one and the guide was still clear. The writing was
big, easy to read and uncomplicated (not dumb, but clear, and I have to
say, this goes for the rest of the functions). There is a smile shutter on board too, so it will automatically take a shot when it sees a smile.

Some of the specs include a 26mm wide angle lens, a 4 times optical zoom, 14.0 megapixel resolution and a sweep panorama setting. I like this last one in particular as it allows you to take a rapid series of shots in any direction, and the camera then ‘stitches’ these together to form one panoramic shot. You just have to hold the button down and let fly. Again, in keeping with the novice aspect of this Sony digital camera, this is easy to use, producing good results.

The wide angle lens is a good feature for a holiday picture camera (and there’s also an option to take extra wide panoramic shots as well) and together they make up for the small zoom quality which is to be expected in a camera of this size.

The picture quality is impressive for a beginner’s camera, and even more so at low light where I expected it to struggle to be honest. 14
megapixels offer the chance for good prints too. The screen is obviously going to have to fit on to a small camera, but it gives very clear pictures for its size.

There is a limited video function, but what there is works well if you are looking to capture a moment at short notice, and you can do so quickly with a three second start up time!

There are nine pre set shot modes, for example landscape, night-time and so on. They are very easy to use and for those who want good shots but don’t have the knowledge on how to, this is your function.

The camera comes in a nice selection of colours if you are choosing for someone else (this would make a great present due to its size and ease of use) and the brushed look is very good looking.

At this price, you probably are not going to get a better entry level point and shoot camera. It’s easy to use, easy to hook up to your P.C. and easy to get the best out of, which is more than you can say about more complicated machines.

This is the first camera I have bought in years. I’m very happy with it. It is so easy to use. The panoramic feature is so simple to use. You just set it to panoramic, hold down the button and pan the camera. If you don’t want to get confused trying to figure out a lot of technology, but still want an easy camera to use, I would recommend getting the Sony Cyber-Shot Digital Camera.
