Sony SGPT11US/S Wi-Fi Tablet

Despite the recent shifts in the economy, user spending on their electronics is now at an all time high. Some of the justification for this is that small electric gadgets are getting to be easier to buy. What was once considered as exorbitant has now turned into the gotta-have-it item to have.
Sony SGPT11US/S Wi-Fi Tablet
The latest Sony Wi-Fi Tablet is quite a looker straight out of the packaging. The first thing you’ll notice, before all the tech stuff, is the rounded top compared to the flat, much thinner bottom. Personally I think that this is a really beautiful piece of design, and Sony say that it is an attempt to mimic the feel of a magazine which has been folded over. Interesting, but I like it, as I do the grooves or dimples that give extra grip and the matte silver steel rim. The slightly sloping angle of the screen also makes for a better typing experience than other tablets, and with soft rubber ‘grips’ attached, it is made to stay still.

So the specifications:
Well the operating system is Android Honeycomb with NVIDIA Tegra2 Processor. It’s got front and rear Cameras. Front 0.3 Megapixel. Rear 5.0 Megapixel and Bluetooth integrated stereo. The cradle charges the S Tablet. An LCD protection sheet protects screen from scratches. The Sony Tablet weighs 10 pounds.
The first thing I tried were the camera’s. These worked very well and the video was crisp and clear and I really like the playback, with all viewing angles showing up really well to be honest (although the rear facing camera does not have a flash, I have a camera for pictures though, so I’m not sure where I’ll be using a tablet to photograph holidays or capture family moments!).
Surfing worked out fine with no problems, and the 9.4 inch backlit screen, as with the pictures, gives it all a great look, the colours are rich and warm.
This being Sony IT, you have to expect a few innovations, this is the tablet marketplace after all, and it’s crowded.
So first up is the infra red remote control, with which you can control other devices in your living room. If, like me, you use your tablet predominantly at home, in the evenings, this function is a real winner, no more messing around with remote controls for me, and setting it up to my home system was quick and easy. There’s a wireless DLNA function so you can stream to a T.V. and send pictures, photos and other content. Very cool.
For gamers, this Sony Tablet offers an innovation in gaming software too. The Playstation Suite will enable you to play PSP and Playstation games using the emulator provided and two games are included to get you going. The battery is well up to al of this by the way, I’m getting eight and a half hours of use, which is more than enough.
So as a tablet, who does the Sony Wifi Tablet stand against the others. Well it’s different, and that’s a good start. The look, and the feel( with the curved design, the weight is transferred to one side, making it much easier to hold in one hand for long periods than any other I’ve tried) are unique, and the remote control and Playstation functions will mark it out as well. Highly recommended.

Others who have purchased this tablet have had great things to say about it. Here are a few of the user reviews about it:
By David M. Switzer
I played around with the Sony Tablet before buying it. I like the way it feels in your hands. It’s not made of a cheap-feeling rubber, and not slick to where you feel you’ll drop it. The design is great, and the light-weight is a treat. With the new software used by Sony, moving things around on the screen is super easy, and download time is quick.

I really like the feel of the Sony Tablet. I’ve gotten it set up to work as a remote control for my entertainment system and have removed numerous remotes from the room now. Also, with tis being a Playstation Certified Device, you can connect a playstation controller via USB. I’m really happy with this system.

The folded book design of the Sony Tablet is so ergonomically friendly and comfortable to use. Much more comfortable than most of the other tablets available. This is so easy to hold in one hand. When Sony says this can also be used as a universal remote, they mean it. You can sync up with just about anything in the house that uses a normal remote control. I’m jazzed that it even works with my DirectTV setup.

When I first got the Sony Tablet, I was amazed at the design. It is so ergonomically friendly. I fully charged the battery before using it. Setting it up was so simple, it hardly took any time. When you first turn it on, it starts up quickly, and navigating around is so simple. I was amazed to find out that there’s even a navigation system built in. When using it as a reader, it’s very easy to turn the pages. I am really happy with the Sony sgpt11us tablet.
